Op-Ed: What’s the Point?

The following is an op-ed written by Tristan G., Age 5 exclusively for The Criswell Mirror.

“I’m so tired.”

Why do we exist? That’s what I wonder all the time. We get up in the morning and eat breakfast and go to school or play or whatever. But why are we doing it? What’s the point of everything? Sometimes, I just feel so bored with life. It’s like we’re going through the motions without really knowing why we’re doing any of it.

I know some people say that we exist to have fun and enjoy ourselves, but even that gets old after a while. Like, we play games and go on rides at the amusement park, but then we leave and it’s like nothing ever happened. It’s just more of the same, day after day.

I don’t know why I feel this way. Maybe it’s because I’m only five and I don’t understand the world yet. But I do know that something seems off. We all go through our lives like zombies, just doing whatever everyone else is doing without really thinking about it. And then we die and that’s it. It’s kind of scary when you think about it.

So, what’s the solution? I don’t know. Maybe we should all start asking ourselves why we’re doing what we’re doing. Maybe if we slowed down a little and actually thought about our lives instead of just going through the motions, we would find more meaning in them. Or maybe there really is no meaning and we’re all just doomed to wander aimlessly through life until it ends.

I don’t know, but one thing I do know is that something needs to change. We can’t keep living like this forever.
